From Te Anau we take the road back to the Southern Alps. There is no direct connection between Te Anau and the westcoast. Unfortunately there are attempts to build a road through the northern part of the Fjordland Nationalpark to the westcoast.
We take the road back to Queenstown and from there again through Gibbston Valley on Highway 6 via Wanaka along the Isthmus Peak (1417m) to Haast Pass (563m). Behind the pass the westcoast is not far anymore. There we stay the night on a parking. Von Te Anau fahren wir wieder zurück in die Southern Alps. Es gibt (noch) keine direkte Verbindung zur Westküste. Leider gibt es aber Bestrebungen durch den nördlichen Teil des Fjordland Nationalparks eine Straße zur Westküste zu bauen. So fahren wir zurück nach Queenstown und von dort wieder durch das Gibbston Valley auf dem Highway 6 über Wanaka vorbei am Isthmus Peak (1417m) zum Haast Pass (563m). Hinter dem Pass geht es direkt zur Westküste. Dort übernachten wir auf einem Parkplatz.
